What AB 339 requires of local public agencies

AB 339 is a California law that took effect on January 1.
Under AB 339, local public agencies must provide at least 45 days’ written notice to recognized employee organizations before:
- Issuing an RFP or RFQ
- Renewing or extending a service contract
These requirements apply when services fall within represented job classifications. The required notice must include:
- The scope of work
- The anticipated contract duration
- The estimated cost
- The reason for the contract
To help agencies stay informed and prepared, RGS has created an AB 339 Resources Page with key requirements and practical tools to support compliance and implementation planning.
