CalSAWS supports LA wildfire victims

The devastating LA wildfires in January destroyed over 11,500 homes and displaced approximately 13,000 households, including numerous CalFresh recipients.
In response to this crisis, the CalSAWS Project team (administered in part by RGS) collaborated with LA County and the California Department of Social Services to provide immediate food assistance.
This partnership led to the distribution of nearly 7,000 emergency CalFresh benefits, totaling over $1.3 million, ensuring affected families had access to essential food resources.
As the system supports all 58 California counties in delivering cash, medical, and food benefits, the CalSAWS project team also assisted LA County with its Disaster CalFresh application period, expanding access to vital food assistance for even more residents.
The CalSAWS project team’s commitment to rapid response during crises highlights its dedication to supporting California’s most vulnerable communities.
